Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of winger, Sam Kelly on a two-year-deal.
The 23-year-old began his footballing trade at Norwich City, where he spent two years before joining the Everton academy in March 2012. Following his release in 2013, Kelly joined Cambridge City in February 2014, before returning to Norwich City later that year, working alongside Assistant Manager, Paul Wilkinson.
Kelly then signed a two-year contract at Port Vale in 2015, making a total of 49 league appearances over a two year period. In the 2015/16 season, Kelly scored Port Vale's Goal of the Season with a sensational effort against Coventry City on 7th February.
Sam becomes the third signing of the summer and is excited at the prospect of working alongside manager, Russell Slade. "Russell has been a manager at some great clubs and is a big name in football", said Kelly. "When I got the original call from my agent, I couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with him".
Kelly is able to play on the wings, but can also play as a support striker if needed. "I'm left footed, I have speed and I want to create and make things happen", explained Kelly. "I want to get the ball and make things happen. I've scored a few goals, I can play in the number 10 role behind the striker as well and get shots off and try help the team."
