Hartlepool U18's 1-1 Grimsby Town U18's

Our Under 18’s faced a long trek to Hartlepool at the weekend, buoyed by last Saturday’s late win against Chesterfield.

However, it was Hartlepool who started on top and setting the tempo of the game, and they opened the scoring in the 20th minute when a close range finish beat Town stopper Ollie Battersby, who had pulled off an excellent save destined for the top corner moments earlier.

It took Town until the 30th minute to really have an impact on the game, when a neat move nearly got them on the score-sheet, good combination play through Walker and Burrell allowed for a slotted cross, dummied by Richardson only for Goddard to see his effort blocked on the line.

Town were at it again moments later, when another good team move was finished coolly by Brandon Buckley from the edge of the box, scoring his second goal in as many games. The interval came and the scores were level at one a piece.

Town started the brighter in the second period, putting the pressure on their opposition. Burrell went close with his effort going the wrong side of the post. Town had more chances through Walker, Goddard, and Burrell, but all were thwarted by the Hartlepool keeper.

Neil Woods men headed back home with a deserved share of the spoils.
They now turn their attention to Youth Alliance Cup action next weekend at home versus Notts County in an 11am kick-off at Cheapside.

Watch the goals from the game.
