Hall-Johnson Signs For The Mariners

16 October 2017

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of versatile defender, Reece Hall-Johnson on an initial one-year-deal.

The 22-year-old has been with the Mariners since the beginning of September on trial, proving himself to manager, Russell Slade and assistant, Paul Wilkinson.

"I've been here a while, i've worked hard, the gaffer believes in me and has put his trust in me", Hall-Johnson told iFollow Mariners. "Hopefully I can repay him and do well this season".

Hall-Johnson began his career at Norwich City, where he joined the club's academy system at the age of 11. In the 2012-13 season, Reece was in the Norwich City squad which lifted the FA Youth Cup.

Later in 2013, Hall-Johnson signed his first professional contract with The Canaries, making his professional debut as a 65th minute substitute in their 3-1 victory over Crawley Town in the Capital One Cup.

Following his release from Norwich City in 2016, Hall-Johnson had spells at Maidstone United and Bishop's Stortford before securing a move to Braintree Town in October.

In his time at Braintree, Hall-Johnson played in a variety of positions scoring 5 goals in 25 league appearances. Discussing his preferred position, Reece told us that his "preferred position is probably right back, but i'm quite an attacking full back".

Despite joining a new club, Hall-Johnson has come into contact with some familiar faces, such as his former academy manager, Paul Wilkinson and fellow players, Diallang Jaiyesimi and Sam Kelly. "I know Wilko, I was at Norwich a few seasons back and he was my manager there and I worked really well underneath him, so he was a big part in me coming here", said Hall-Johnson.

Talking about his new team mate, Hall-Johnson spoke about his history with Sam Kelly. "We grew up together, me and Sam, we were at Norwich City together and we travelled together as schoolboys and as kids so it's nice to be back with him."

Reece will wear the number 31 shirt for the 17/18 season.
