Former Town man Nathan Arnold returned to play on Blundell Park for the first time since departing during the summer of 2016 today, this is what he had to say about his return.
He said: “It was nice. It’s the first time I’ve come back and playing. I’ve come back a few times and watched in the Upper Findus, but really good to be on the turf again at Blundell Park.
“Obviously I had some special times here. It was quite a weird one coming back, but once the game starts, it’s business-like.”
It was a phenomenal reception from the Grimsby fans.
Nathan said: “I must say that the reception that I got at the end was phenomenal – and it’s testament to both sets of clubs.
“Overall it was a wonderful reception that I got and I want to thank those fans.”
Asked about the game.
He said: “It was a typical derby, we didn’t take the safety catch off really. It was a quite tight affair. We were a little bit frustrated because we didn’t make the most of our set-pieces. We are known for being direct and physical but we can play as well. Fair play to Grimsby, they were solid. It’s not been the best of starts for both teams really, but I think both teams will be challenging for the play-offs.”
Would he have celebrated if he had scored today?
Nathan added: “I wouldn’t have celebrated. I’ve got too much respect for people here. I can’t answer that because I didn’t score, but I’m pretty sure that I would have kept my emotions controlled.”
Does anyone remember this?
