A young reserves team fell to a 2-0 defeat by a strong Mansfield Town side at Rainworth Miners Welfare FC this afternoon.
Lee Angol, who was Town’s chief tormentor in the Sky Bet League fixture at The One Call Stadium a few weeks ago, fired the home side ahead on 16 minutes. And it was the Stag’s frontman that added their second on 32 minutes, scoring from the penalty spot after a trip in the box.
Town gave run-outs to striker Carl Lawson, defender, Jason Akiotu, and winger, Jude Oyibo.
Akwasi Asante came through another reserves game with no ill-effects, getting another 60 minutes under his belt.
And Town’s assistant manager, Paul Wilkinson, was delighted with the performance of his young side against a strong Mansfield team. He said: “To be fair our boys were really good, did really well. They stood up to it, they could have folded quite easily, because of the strength of their team.
“It’s a great learning-curve for them. You can’t recreate that at that level, it was great for them to play against that level of opposition,” he added.
