BOSS Russell Slade was delighted with the 2-1 victory at Port Vale on Saturday afternoon and believes his side showed great character to come back from behind to earn the victory.
Speaking after the game, he said: ''I'm delighted for the boys - Ii thought e showed great attitude and a good spirit in the second period.
''It was important to stay in the game today because Port Vale weren't gonna be better than they were first half. They've thrown everything from us with a real reaction to a new manager coming in.
''We've made a mistake and let them get their noses in front but I thought we had a great reaction second half and could've got two, three or four goals.''
On the side improving game by game
''It was good, it emphasies the spirit and improvement in the team because the games are really tight now every time we play.
''We're in every single one which is important home and away and we've managed to do that in the last four or five.
''We've not alwas won them but it's nice to get that in because now we play at home and have a chance to get back to back wins again.''
On Siriki Dembele getting his first goal for the club
''We've been waiting for that, he's threatened to do it on so many occasions to get a goal or produce something that gets us goal and today he's come good for us.
''I'm delighted for him, it should give him confidence and momentum in the games coming up.
''He's shown his composure to take it around the keeper and made it look easy, which by the way, it wasn't.''
On coming from behind
''To come from behind is great, we were in the same situation at Newport where they bombed us, were very physical and deserved to be in front and we took more control of the game without quite working the keeper quite enough.
''But today, we've been more assertive and believed in what we're doing and certainly have gone on and should've wrapped it up near the end. Ii thought Jamille had a great chance to wrap it up for us.''
Town next take on Harry Kewell's Crawley Town at Blundell Park on Saturday afternoon.
