TOWN boss Russell Slade was pleased to pick up the first victory at home this season in the 1-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
Speaking after the game, he said: ''It's nice to get over the line.
''The group's been working hard, we all have from staff to players throughout the week, and we've not quite transferred what we've been doing on the training ground with a great work ethic and great attitude into results on the pitch.
''Today, against a very good Crewe side who haven't been beaten, I thought we were worthy winners.
On Mitch Rose's winner
''He's combative isn't he, and he does get in the box and does nick a goal for us as you've seen in pre season.
''He's got in there with a good header and a really well worked out set play. We've worked on Dembele going short as you'll have seen in pre-season and he's delivered this time with a good cross and it's a good finish.''
''I felt it was coming because we created two really good chances and there was a really good piece of defending in all fairness, i don't know how he kept it out when he made the clearance but other than that, it was a very good opportunity.
On managing games better
''What we've got to learn to do when we're in the driving seat like that is manage the game competently in the second period.
''We don't want to let it get too stretched and need to be composed and controlled and go get a second.
''They made it very open and to be honest, there were a couple of pieces of great defending and goalkeeper work that kept us in it it at that end.
''But we were still an incredible threat at the other end as well, Dembele's had a chance and JJ's had a chance, we've still had opportunities to finish them off and maybe the wrong choice or wrong decision or the technique not being right to score ourselves so we'll work on things. ''
On different options beings available
''I think having Vernon back for the first time in a few games is more than significant so to do what he did, obviously again he wasn't fully prepped up, it's his first minutes for a fortnight or more and he put in a good solid performance.
''The good thing is, the bench is so strong that I can bring players on now and I'm not gonna lose anything and can actually change the dynamics for the better.
''It's a a steady performance, I think we will improve as the season goes on.
''Quite a few of theirs have been together for a while now as a group but we'll emerge slowly but surely.''
