Match Report: Swindon Town 0-1 Grimsby Town

21 April 2018

Speaking after the game, he said: ''Obviously we're pleased, it's a tough place to come and I think Swindon are a good team and we've not won too many games during my time so it's a great feeling to get the victory.

''We've obviously come in and seen the results so we know there's some important work ahead of us, but I can certainly see signs of progress in our performances and the result today.''

On the winning penalty and Mitch Rose delivering again

''It's honestly so difficult to see with so many bodies in the way and our view is probably the worst in the stadium, but it was obviously a big relief when he did give the handball.

''From my vantage point, it did look like it clipped him but I've got no know way of knowing if it was inside or outside of the box.

''I've got to praise him (Mitch Rose) for his penalty and his performances, we've given him a specific role in the team and the fact he's got us three key goals that have given us three important wins is all credit to him so I'm very happy with him.''

On the side looking better defensively

''It's a cliche but we're working hard from Monday to Friday on simple and basic things, making sure people are in the right positions and applying pressure to the ball when we can.

''But if we're not able to do that, we need to make sure we're compact and make things difficult for teams.

''It's certainly not rocket science from us, it's doing the basics well and a lot of hard work that the lads are delivering and it's got us three points today.''

On the job not being done quite yet

''I think we've still got some important work to do and - not that it's the most important thing - but we're on a decent run at the moment and I think it's four out of five unbeaten.

''So we've got two games left and there's a massive job to do in terms of getting the job done in terms of getting the points required to stay up, so we need to keep our momentum and our decent performances going into next week.

''I honestly haven't looked at the league table in enough detail but one thing we can't do is  knock off and think its been done because we need to work hard this week.

''We have a massive game next Saturday against a team trying to get promotion and it's our last game in front of our home fans, so we need to deliver a good peformance and see how many points we can get.''
