We are delighted to announce the new academy scholars, who will be joining the U18's side this summer.
On the new recruits, Academy Manager, Neil Woods said: 'In conjunction with the recruitment department of the academy, we have worked tirelessly to scout, coach and develop the players to the levels expected from this football club.
"The players have shown impressive attitudes and ability and a real desire to be successful. We look forward to working with the lads and overseeing their progression and development with the ultimate target of playing in GTFC First Team.'
Meet the Scholars:
Name: Hugo Banks
Bio: Hugo is from the North East, and has already managed to impress First Team goalkeeper coach, Andy Warrington. Hugo is a good shot stopper with neat distribution, and we look forward to working with him.
Name: Lewis Derrick
Bio: Lewis is from Birmingham, and is a highly technical central midfielder with good vision. Lewis has previously worked with Neil Woods at Walsall's Academy. He will be an important factor in Town’s future success; we look forward to welcoming him to the club.
Name: Joey Hope
Position: Full Back
Bio: Joey is an exciting full back from the North East, and previously part of the academy at Sunderland. Joey has a great range of passing and again has featured in both the U18’s and reserve team for the Mariners this season.
Name: Reece Jahoo
Bio: Reese joins us from North Carolina, U.S.A. Reese has previously worked with First Team Assistant Manager, Paul Wilkinson. A powerful centre forward, who has scored a lot of goals in his native country, Reese has a great personality and will slot in well with the Young Mariners when he joins for pre-season in June.
Name: Brandon McPherson
Bio: Brandon joins us from the West Midlands. His most recent club was Coventry City. Brandon is an athletic winger, who has a great left foot. He has already scored a few goals representing Town and has fitted in great with the rest of the squad. Brandon has some great skills, which he will demonstrate in the coming season.
Name: Ayodeji Owoeye
Bio: Ayodeji is based in London and has only recently converted from been a central midfielder to a centre forward. Ayodeji has great pace and power as well as an eye for goal. He is joining the Mariners from the private based company, Mass Elite FC, but has played at various academies across London.
Name: Cameron Painter
Bio: Cameron is from the North East and has played in various academies in that part of the country. He is a tough tackling ‘box-to-box’ midfielder. Cameron has featured in the U18’s squad already this season and we are looking forward to having him on board.
Name: Mattie Pollock
Bio: Mattie has started all but 3 of this year’s U18’s games and has appeared in the reserves side. The towering defender was previously at Leeds United and is son of ex-footballer Jamie Pollock. Mattie has had an excellent start with Grimsby winning "Player of the Month" in February. Mattie resides in Middlesbrough.
Name: Lennon Stead
Bio: Lennon is a product of the GTFC Academy, he joined Grimsby Town as an Under 14, having previously been at Sheffield United. Lennon is comfortable both as a centre forward and out wide, he has great pace and scored lots of goals during his time with the Mariners, and has also been in the U18’s squad regularly for Neil Woods’ men this season. Lennon is currently based in Welton, Lincoln.
