This week, Town’s U18’s faced Bradford City. The Young Mariners were hungry for a win, following last week’s defeat at Oldham. The squad included five U16’s players in the squad and two U15’s players.

Town were fast out of the blocks, with Buckley breaking free in the box, but the Bantams keeper made a fine save to deny the shot. Town kept pushing, with attempts from Burrell, Richardson, Poynter and Starbuck all being saved by a Bradford keeper on top form. However, Bradford did manage to control parts of the first half with some slick possession but Battersby held strong when tested in the Town goal.

Town had another bright start in the second half, managing to test the Bradford goalkeeper several times, only failing to score due to the keeper’s excellent form. Neil Woods decided to changed things slightly at 60 minutes, switching Starbuck for Painter. The Young Mariners finally managed to break the deadlock on the 70th minute mark, when RICHARDSON slotted it in from close range. Bradford rallied themselves well following this though, and pressed hard, forcing a number of saves from Battersby late on. It wasn’t enough though, and Town eventually emerged the victors with a 1-0 win.
