Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of England Under-20 International central midfielder, Elliot Embleton from Sunderland until January 2019.
The highly rated 19-year-old came through the Academy ranks at the Stadium of Light, making the bench during the 16/17 Premier League season on six occasions after impressing for the Under 23's during that season. Despite progressing through to the first team, Embleton had to wait until the 17/18 season for his professional debut, coming off the bench in December 2017 in a 0-0 draw with Wolves in the Sky Bet Championship.
Embleton has also represented England from the U17's through to the U20's, picking up a 2017 Toulon Tournament winners' medal, scoring vs. Scotland in the semi-finals of the tournament. Embleton also converted a penalty in the final vs. Ivory Coast in which the Three Lions were triumphant. Embleton was also part of the 2018 Under-19 European Championship squad, picking up a Man of the Match award for two assists and a goal in their 3-2 victory over Turkey. The goal was also nominated for the 2018 UEFA Goal of the Season award.
Elliot will join up with his new team mates and management team tomorrow at Cheapside, as preparations for Saturday continue. Elliot will be eligible for selection on Saturday, as we welcome Yeovil Town to Blundell Park. You can see if Elliot makes his debut by securing your tickets online via our online ticket store.
