Town boss Michael Jolley was full of praise for his players after watching his 10 men fight for the three points at Exeter City this afternoon.
Speaking after the game, Jolley said: “It was a great win and I think it said everything about us in terms of, not so much the football, but the way we went about things.
“I thought our goalkeeper was incredible, and in front of him everyone put their bodies on the line to try and make blocks and keep the ball out of our net.
“It tells you about the kind of people that we have got in our dressing room, and I’m just so proud of the way they have gone about it today.
“I think people can see that we have got lads that give everything they have got.
“As a manager or as a supporter, that’s a brilliant start, because there are plenty that don’t. We have got a terrific group of lads that give everything every time they step across the line.
“They make mistakes and they are not perfect, but their intentions are always to try and play well for Grimsby Town. I thought it was a magnificent performance and a great result.”
“Young Mattie Pollock coming on. 17 years old, his Football League debut against James Stockley, who is a top striker at this level, I thought he was magnificent.”
