See what Russell Slade made of the 2-0 defeat against Morecambe.

6 January 2018

TOWN boss Russell Slade says his side need to find a way to get back their positive momentum after going down to a 2-0 defeat against Morecambe at Blundell Park on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking after the game, he said: '''The result is paramount and sometimes you've gotta find different ways to get back into a game and to win a game.

''First half, without them having to do a great deal, they've got themselves in a really comfortable position so the first half was poor.

''We commanded the ball better second half but they were deep, they got lots of bodies behind the ball and we couldn't break them down despite lots of balls going in the box and we didn't work the keeper hard enough.''

On the side leaking goals recently

''As I say, they've not had to do a lot to get themselves in front.

''I thought it was a carbon copy of the Crewe game where they didnt have to do much and then we're in control in the second half, team have got somehting to hang onto and we desperately need a goal.

''With the second, we could clear it but we don't, it goes for a corner and its gone in at the near post and Jake on another day might have flicked that over the bar.

''The first one should've been picked up in the box again with the loopy header from Ellison so the two goals were avoidable and from our solid stucture, we're now looking a little bit vulnerable so that has to change again.''

On getting back on track

''Momentum is a really key element here because momentum can be positive and can be negative.

''A couple of weeks ago it was really positive because we'd won three on the bounce but now we've lost three on the bounce and that momentum needs to change aain because it's negative momentum and the first half was well below bar.

''We rallied to get back into it but you can't always rally when you're down and expect to get things out the game so the damage was done.

''You work hard on the training ground, we changed it before and got ourselves nice and solid and we'll have to do the same again.

''You have to get those basics right and make sure you stay in games because we're not giving oursselves the opportunity. We're having to chase games and that's not easy.''

On potential transfers

''We'll hope to do some work next week whoever that may be, but we are hoping to have someone in early next week.

''We have a board meeting on Monday and we've already worked out a few things so we'll hopefully have something coming in.''
