Town frontman, Charles Vernam was obviously delighted to get his first Grimsby Town and league goal against Colchester on Saturday.
Charles’ fantastic 38th minute strike had given the Mariners the lead, but Sean Murray’s goal just after the break denied Town a deserved win.
Speaking straight after the game, Charles said: “It was my first professional goal and I’m absolutely delighted.
“I felt like we could have got a bit more and I could have had one or two more with the chances that we had.
“It’s an amazing feeling and one that I will remember for a long time.”
On Town’s late penalty shout, Charles added: “I’ve seen it back and it looks like it’s a pretty clear penalty. We are a bit disappointed with that and the gaffer is in with the ref now.”
After speaking to the match officials after the game, Town boss Russell Slade confirmed that the Match Assessor had agreed that a penalty should have been awarded.
