New Grimsby Town signing Mallik Wilks hopes to bring more goals back to the side, following his loan move from Leeds United this afternoon.
The 19-year-old striker – who joins on loan until the end of the season – scored five goals in all competitions on loan at fellow Sky Bet League Two side Accrington Stanley earlier this campaign, and he’s hungry for more with the Mariners.
He said: “It’s a good team that keeps the ball well. Just, at the moment, no one’s finishing, so I’ll try bring some hope to the side – score goals. I play on the shoulder, I’m quick, powerful, good finisher.
“It’s very physical in League Two but, if you’re clever, you’ll get goals.
“There were a few clubs after me, but this one seemed the best option for me because there’s more opportunity. At this club, there are no favourites – everyone’s fighting for a position, fighting for a shirt.”
And Wilks will be included in Russell Slade’s 18-man squad for tomorrow’s clash with league leaders Luton Town at Blundell Park (3pm).
“Luton are a good, physical side, but I want to win.
“It’s a great move, I can learn about the game more. There are a few good lads, and I can’t wait to get involved in training,” he said.
