A very down and disappointed Russell Slade reflects on a dismal night in Somerset.
The Mariners started well but were forced to play almost the whole game with 10 men - and the last half-hour with nine - after Mitch Rose was sent off with just five minutes on the clock and Karleigh Osborne followed him in being shown the red card.
“It was a really, really difficult night for us," Slade said. As a manager I could see that we would have had every chance of winning a football match tonight.”
His thoughts on the dismissals.
“I’ve looked very quickly on the decisions that he’s made tonight. Really not sure about the first one (Rose’s dismissal), he’s very quick to get his red card out. Second one as well (Osborne’s sending off), two yellows, the second yellow for Karleigh has really squashed us. It’s hard enough with 10, to go to nine is near enough impossible,
“It is frustrating because it is a game that we could have taken some points tonight.”
Asked if the two players would be reprimanded, he said: “Yes. We will look at the incidents separately. We will look at each one on its merits and decide. That is exactly what we did last time.”
The Transfer Window.
With the transfer window set to slam shut on Wednesday, Slade is still hoping that one of his transfer targets drops in. He said: “You never know do you. It’s always a process and strange things can happen on that last day.
“It’s all about getting the right one - and the right fit.”
In terms of possible outgoings, he added: “There may be. Anybody that is in or around that 18 I don’t see going, but there may be some fringe players that get an opportunity to get a game.”
