Grimsby Town have reached The FA Futsal Cup Finals and will face London Helvecia in the semi finals in Walsall on Saturday.

The Town side produced a big shock last weekend as they knocked out National Futsal League side Durham FC to secure their place in the last four.

The Mariners had already sprung a big Cup shock in the previous round when they beat Sussex Futsal Club and they will now take on former winners and Superleague giants Helvecia.

It won’t be easy for the Town boys, with London Helvecia having seven England international players in their squad. A point emphasised by Town coach, Mark Westerby. “Saturday’s game is going to be a huge challenge for our young team,” Mark said: “They have international players, who have years of experience. Saying this we as a team embrace the challenge, and I for one can’t wait.

“We entered the FA Cup for the test and to see how far we could go and so far we’ve done an outstanding job beating some established national league sides. We have prepared well for Saturday and will give it everything. Hopefully some midlands based Mariners can come support the lads on the day.”

The second semi-final of the men’s competition sees Superleague winners Reading Escolla face Birmingham Futsal Club, with the winners of the two semi finals meeting in the final on Sunday.

And Town boss Michael Jolley congratulated the Futsal boys on reaching the finals and wished all the best in Walsall. He added: “Many congratulations to the Grimsby Town FC Futsal team on reaching the FA Futsal Cup semi-final.

“It’s a fine achievement to have gone so far in a national tournament, and I am sure the players will be keen to go even further and try to win the competition.
“On behalf of myself, my staff and the players, we wish wish them the very best of luck for the semi-final against London Helvecia.”
