Speaking about the club's appointment of Michael Jolley as manager, Paul said: “Everything’s been 100 miles an hour. Michael’s come in and he’s introduced himself to the players. I’ll speak with him tomorrow, and then we’ll meet up on Monday.”

And his thoughts on his last game in caretaker charge, he said: "It’s frustrating again.

“We didn’t start particularly great which gave us a mountain to climb, but then we dug our way back into the game.

“The first goal’s a poor one for us to concede, but for the rest of the half I thought we ground our way back in, gave as good as we were getting, and started to create one or two half-chances.

“We didn’t take them, and I said to them at half-time ‘you’ve got to stick in the game here, you’ve got half a chance.’

“Some of our play was alright, we battled and scrapped, and it was never going to be an easy game because of the pitch and the conditions.

“Second half, we started really brightly, but it was probably a tale of our season really.

“We can’t get a goal at the minute, and we haven’t taken our chances or been ruthless enough, and then we concede a second goal from a corner which was a blatant free-kick.

“The lad’s blocked Macca as he’s gone for the ball but the referee thinks it’s our player, and when things are going against you they’re really going against you.

“It’s been a tough week, and most clubs probably would have been the same.

“We haven’t been able to train a lot, we’ve been here, there and everywhere, and then yesterday we ended up travelling late on and it was a long old journey. But I’m not here to make excuses."
