Town boss Michael Jolley has revealed that he is making progress in putting his squad together ahead of the 2018/19 season and he is hoping to make some announcements within the next seven to 10 days. He is also keen to get decisions back from the current players that have been offered new deals.

Speaking exclusively on iFollow, he said: “I’d like to think that would happen fairly soon. We are now more than halfway through May and I would like to think that there will be something to report within the next seven to ten days.”

And where will he be casting his net in search of new players?

“We are looking in all areas really. People know that my background is that I’ve been in a number of different countries and a number of different levels of the game, so like most managers you look at players that you already know, but we are not limited to that. Far from it, we are looking at the right type of player to bring to Grimsby – not just as a player but also as a person that wants to come and play for this football club.”

When does the Town boss expect to hear back from those players that have been offered new deals?

“Pretty soon,” Jolley said. “We need to know where we stand fairly soon with that. Over the course of the next few days we should be tying up those loose ends, getting to a decision one way or another.”

The Town boss recently had to make some difficult decisions on who he should keep from his playing staff.

He said: “Every decision was very difficult. Went through a lengthy process to come to a final decision on all players. The players that have left us, we are very grateful for the service that they gave us and some of them played a major part in us staying up this season. So we wish them all well and wish them well for their future careers.”

Danny Collins was probably the biggest surprise of the players that you want to keep at the club?

“Danny’s a very good player still and made a big contribution last season, and we feel he is someone who can help us moving forward. All of my conversations with Danny have been very positive about the future and I rate Danny very highly as a player and as a person.”
