Grimsby Town defender Alex Whitmore says it won't be easy facing ex-club Chesterfield in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Michael Jolley's men will be hoping to progress to the third round of the Emirates FA Cup by beating Martin Allen's side at the Proact Stadium on Sunday (2pm).
But 23-year-old Whitmore says he it will be tough facing the Spireites, who he has fond memories of playing for last season.
Speaking exclusively on iFollow Mariners, he said: "It was a tough time - probably the toughest I've faced in my career, but I enjoyed playing for them.
"But I thorougly enjoyed playing for them, I enjoyed working with the people there - it was just unfortunate it ended the way it did.
"Some people might go through their whole career without ever suffering anything like a relegation.
"I've been through it, although I wish I didn't, and I've experienced that now and I know what it takes to get through it - it wasn't easy, but it does stand me in stronger stead going forward.
"It's not easy playing against a former club - I've got fond memories, and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at those clubs and I've got nothing but respect for them."
