Grimsby Town boss Michael Jolley has praised his players for their performance in the 3-1 Emirates FA Cup first round victory over MK Dons at Blundell Park.
Town came from a goal behind as Elliot Embleton, Wes Thomas, and Charles Vernam struck in the second half to send the Mariners through to the second round of the Emirates FA Cup for just the second time in five seasons.
And Jolley was quick to commend his players for their efforts in the victory over the Dons, who are second in Sky Bet League Two.
Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “I think that’s a really big win for us – we’re taking on a team that’s lost one game in the league all season, and are clearly a very good side with a very good manager.
“It’s not as though they changed their team around – it’s a team that has won the last three games or so for them.
“But we have to give a lot of credit to our players today – I think it was a really good performance, and Paul Tisdale said to me at the end that we deserved the win so I’m really pleased.
“The players have been excellent today – I think that was a really good performance – we created a number of chances, and I think we had a good shape about us defensively.
“We feel we’re starting to turn our form around here at Blundell Park – we beat Colchester in our last match, we drew with Exeter prior to that, and today we’ve beaten MK Dons, so we feel we’re definitely improving, but we realise there’s still a long way for us to go.”
