Michael Jolley says Grimsby Town must be at their best if they’re to beat Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two at Field Mill on Tuesday (7.45pm).

David Flitcroft’s side have lost just one league game this season, and the Mariners will be looking to inflict their second league defeat on Tuesday.

But Jolley acknowledges that his side must be at their best if they’re to take three points from the game.
Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “We’re going to try and win the game, certainly. If we’re going to get anything from Mansfield, we’ve got to be good in all aspects of our game.

"Defending, attacking, turnovers, and set plays will all have to be effective.

“The pleasing thing for me is, despite the fact we’ve lost our last two games, we’ve not been that far away from taking a result in either game.

“We’re not over-thinking the fact that we have lost those games, but clearly we don’t want to go on another lengthy run where we don’t pick up points, so we know we’ve got to get points as soon as we can.”

And Jolley said he hopes his side can begin to score more goals in the coming games.

He said: “We’ve not scored enough goals, so the big picture is if we’re going to be more successful this season, we need to score more goals – we need to be more productive in the top-third.

“I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating decent chances – I think in both the Crewe and Cambridge games we have had good chances to score that all-important first goal.”

Centre-half Alex Whitmore didn’t train today after suffering a blow in the ribs against Cambridge at the weekend, but could be available for tomorrow’s game.
