Town boss Michael Jolley spoke to the press after Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy defeat at the hands of Newcastle United. He said: “I thought it was an open game – plenty of chances for both teams. Disappointed to lose the game. Over the course of the ninety minutes we have created more than enough chances to have won the game.
“Obviously we have conceded three goals so it makes it really tough to come away with a victory when you do that.
“I think there was lots of positives. I was really pleased with Ahkeem Rose, up until he had a problem and had to come off the pitch. I was pleased with Harry Cardwell, his first start for an awfully long time. One or two others impressed me as well - they certainly have done themselves no harm in terms of the bigger picture.”
On the competition, Jolley added: “It’s given us an opportunity to look at different combinations and look at different people within the team.
“Obviously we started with a victory, so that was pleasing, but we’ve ended up with two defeats in the last two games, which is not what we want."
