Youth coach Neil Woods was impressed after seeing his young players come up against a more experienced Mansfield side in Tuesday’s reserves defeat.
Speaking after the game, he said: “I was actually really pleased with them. They were certainly a more senior team.
“Colin (Walker) has just said to me that this is the best training session that they will ever have. From that perspective, they are learning keeping your shape, working hard. We turned the ball over too easy at times for me, but that happens when you are doing a lot of chasing because you haven’t got the legs when you get it back.
“It was a great learning curve for the young lads today.
“I thought we’d done enough to nick a point out of it.”
Overall the coach is happy with the progress that his side are making.
“Neil added: “They are coming on good. They are good lads. They apply themselves, they work very hard.
“Every team, every player is striving for consistency, this is what some of these have got to get now.”
