Grimsby Ancient Mariners Win Sporting Achievement Award

Grimsby Ancient Mariners Walking Football Club earn local recognition at Compass FM’s 2018 community awards evening

30 October 2018

Grimsby Ancient Mariners Walking Football Club have won the Sporting Achievement award at Compass FM’s 2018 community awards.

The club recently received the honour at the awards evening at Grimsby Town Hall for their efforts and hard work this year.

They pipped Immingham Pilgrims Swimming Club - who won a number of awards throughout the evening - to the prize.

Pete Cribb, club secretary, said: “We all felt 10-feet tall when our name was announced as the winner!

“Being recognised by an outside organisation makes all the hard work worthwhile, and long may it continue.

“It’s brilliant to play our game of walking football with a fantastic membership that supports everything we are trying to achieve – promoting health and fitness to over-55s in Grimsby.”

Billy Callender – who is Harry Clifton’s grandfather, Pete Cribb, Tony Parrott, Lenny Davidson, Allan Young, and Fred Watson represented the club at the event.

The Ancient Mariners are also nominated for the sporting section of the Heart of the Community Awards 2018 at the end of November.
