Grimsby Town U18s suffered FA Youth Cup first round defeat as they lost 3-2 to Mansfield Town at Blundell Park.
The Mariners were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Kyle Richardson and Tom Jamieson, but the visitors came from behind with three second-half goals to progress to the second round of the competition.
Town started with Ollie Battersby in goal, and a back four of Tom Jamieson, Mattie Pollock, Emil Powles, and Ollie Saunders in front of him.
The Mariners had a five-man midfield, consisting of Joe Starbuck, Jock Curran, Kyle Richardson (Brandon McPherson 87), Conley Poynter (Cameron Painter 57), and captain Brandon Buckley (Luis Adlard 90) – with Rumarn Burrell as the lone striker.
Town almost opened the scoring after eight minutes, but winger Conley Poynter’s across-goal strike was blocked off the line by a Mansfield defender.
Neil Woods’ side broke the deadlock on 23 minutes as midfielder Kyle Richardson smashed home a penalty to beat goalkeeper Jamie Boyle, after a Mansfield defender had fouled the midfielder following a Town corner.
And it took the Mariners just six minutes to double their lead as right-back Tom Jamieson drove down the wing, surged into the box, and put his across-goal strike into the bottom-left corner.
Woods’ side came close again on 38 minutes as striker Rumarn Burrell found space in the box to turn and have a go, but Boyle parried his powerful volley out for a corner.

But it was the Stags who got the first goal of the second half as winger Tyrese Sinclair beat Battersby with a low-driven free-kick from the edge of the area on 54 minutes to make it 2-1.
And the visitors came close to making it level 10 minutes later, but Battersby made a great save to keep out a long-range effort from a Stags forward.
And the Stags made it level on 84 minutes as Rhys Sarson found space to turn in the area and drill it into the bottom-right corner to make it 2-2.
And the visitors completed the comeback two minutes later as Riley O’Sullivan tapped it in from close-range to make it 3-2 to Mansfield.
