GTFC And SSAFA Join Forces

6 September 2018

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the Grimsby & Cleethorpes division of SSAFA as our designated charity for the next two seasons.

Founded in 1885, SSAFA is the UK's oldest National Armed Forces Charitable Organisation. SSAFA have a national network of over 7,000 volunteers which assist tens of thousands of people on an annual basis who have previously served in the armed services.

Mark Trainor, the Honorary Divisional Secretary of the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Division of SSAFA spoke about the work that they carry out.

"SSAFA Grimsby and Cleethorpes Division provides lifelong support to Veterans and their families who live in North East Lincolnshire areas, where we provide support are Social Isolation, Debt, Relationship Breakdown, Self-Care, Housing, Addiction, Loneliness, Financial Hardship, Mental Well-being, Employment, Benefits and Transition into civilian life."

"This support is in recognition of their service to the Nation and we work to ensure that the needs of Veterans and their families are met in an appropriate and timely way and our charity exists to relieve their suffering and distress in order to support their independence and dignity."

"We do not receive any external funding so we attend awareness and fundraising events to raise money and are also reliant on donations from businesses and the public to support what we do."

Stadium Manager of GTFC, Nick Dale has discussed the partnership. "We are delighted to partner up with SSAFA, especially as November 11th marks 100 years of the end of the First World War".

"Supporting local service personnel, their families and loved ones is something that GTFC is very proud to be part of and we would urge all supporters to donate generously to such a worthy cause."

SSAFA will have designated fixtures throughout the season in which bucket collections will take place and supporters will be able to find out more about the charitable work carried out around the local area.
