Grimsby Town boss Michael Jolley says the Mariners' second-half performance against Yeovil Town was unacceptable.
The Mariners lost 1-0 to Darren Way’s side in Sky Bet League Two at Blundell Park, and Jolley says his side need to be more creative and inventive in attack.
Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “We’ve been caught with a poor goal to concede in the second half, and I was disappointed in our second-half performance.
“I’ve just spoken with the players and they understand that the second half wasn’t acceptable so we know that we have to improve.
“I want the team to play with energy – I want the team to play with as much quality as it can. You can’t guarantee that all the time, but I was disappointed with the way we went about our task in the second half.
“We’re not a team that wants to just sling the ball forward directly, particularly when you’ve got a guy who’s 6ft5ins – he was just eating those up.
“We needed to be more inventive, in terms of creating chances, and we didn’t do well enough with that in the second half, and we need to improve.”
But the Town boss is confident his side can improve, ahead of two games next week – Notts County at home in the Checkatrade Trophy, and Bury away in the league.
He said: “It’s a difficult period in terms of we haven’t picked up as many points as we would like.
“I think we’re still seeing the emergence of the team, and we haven’t got a consistent level of performance yet, and that’s something we’re working hard to try and address.
“I think we can do better than that – I’ve seen us do better than that, and it was disappointing.”
