On this day (April 5) in 2016, Grimsby Town came from behind to beat Aldershot 4-3 at the EBB Stadium in the National League.
The Shots led 2-0 at the break, before second-half goals from Padraig Amond, Omar Bogle, and Nathan Arnold helped Paul Hurst’s side take the lead in front of almost 300 travelling away fans on a Tuesday night.
But Barry Smith’s side got themselves immediately back into the game as Rhys Browne levelled the scoring with a 69th-minute strike.
But Jon Nolan secured all three points for Town with a superb goal in the 87th minute as he dipped Aldershot goalkeeper Phil Smith to make it 4-3.
Town: McKeown, Tait, Gowling, Nsiala, Robertson, Arnold, Nolan, Disley, Monkhouse (Bogle 46’), Amond (Clay 90’), Hoban (Stewart 46’).
Subs: Pearson, Bogle, Clay, Pittman, Stewart.
And Town ultimately went on to win promotion back to the EFL with a 3-1 play-off final victory over Forest Green Rovers at Wembley Stadium.
