On this day (April 6) in 2015, Grimsby Town beat Alfreton Town 2-0 in the National League at North Street.
Centre-half Josh Gowling scored on his Mariners debut on 69 minutes, and striker Lenell John-Lewis secured all three points for Paul Hurst’s side with three minutes remaining.
The victory helped keep Paul Hurst’s side in the hunt for automatic promotion to EFL Sky Bet League Two – in front of more than 2,500 travelling fans from the black and white army.
Town starting XI: McKeown, Parslow, Pearson, Gowling, Robertson, Mackreth, Disley, Clay, Jolley, John-Lewis, Pittman.
Substitutes: Brown, Arnold, Chapell, Hannah, Palmer.
But it was ultimately to be third successive play-off heartbreak for Town, who lost 5-3 on penalties to Bristol Rovers in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
