Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley says his side’s 1-0 Sky Bet League Two victory over Carlisle United at Blundell Park was their “best win of the season.”
The Mariners earned their first win in 11 league games, thanks to Joe Grayson’s 91st-minute strike – his first professional EFL goal.
And Jolley said it was his side’s best win of the season, after a run of 10 matches without a victory.
Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “I thought we played well today. It was a good performance from us.
“I was really pleased with the effort and the quality of the players today – I think they delivered a great performance, and thoroughly deserved to win the game.
“I think we started the game better than them – we were on the front foot, we had more final-third entries, and more chances to score.
“They’re going to have periods in the game because they’re a good side and they’re still trying to make it into the play-offs.
“But it was probably our best win of the season in the context of everything that’s been going on.
“If you look at the average age of the team today – we were missing seven important players from the group.
“And if you factor into that the academy players who were on the bench, the average age of the squad was very, very young.
“So to deliver a performance like that, in those circumstances, I think really well done to all the players!”
And Jolley was pleased with striker Ahkeem Rose’s performance on his first league start for Town.
He said: “I thought he did well. We didn’t want him to play as a winger – we wanted him to play as a wide-forward, coming in and getting between the centre-halves as often as he could.
“And I think his pace is always going to cause people problems.
“We’ve tried to manage Ahkeem carefully in terms of his development across the season – he’s had a loan, he’s come back, we’ve reintegrated him, and today was the right day to give him his first start.”
