On this day (April 3) in 2004, Grimsby Town earned their first win in seven League One games as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Blundell Park.
Nicky Law’s men earned a vital three points after six games without a league win.
Striker Darren Mansaram bundled home a Phil Jevons cross, before centre-half Tony Crane scored against his former club to seal the win for Town.
And Chris Turner’s side were down to 10 men just before half time as centre-forward Guylain Ndumbu was sent off for a foul on Jevons.
But the win wasn’t enough to secure survival for the Mariners who were eventually relegated to League Two after a 21st-place finish – one point off safety.
Town: Fettis, Ford, Crane, Edwards, Crowe, Anderson, Lawrence, Coldicott, Jevons, Rankin, Mansaram.
Subs: Parker, Antoine-Curier, Rowan, Campbell, Thorrington.
