🗣️ Michael Jolley Pre-Forest Green Rovers Press Conference

Michael Jolley hopes for more progress as Grimsby Town face Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn this weekend

15 August 2019

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley is targeting more progress ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Two clash with Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn (3pm).

Both sides are still unbeaten in 2019-20, after Town progressed to Carabao Cup round two to make it three games unbeaten on Tuesday.

But Jolley insists he’s focused on his side continuing to develop and make progress.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “Forest Green are one of the stronger teams in our league.

“They have a clear identity, in terms of how they play and I’m very respectful of it because it’s a brave way of playing football.

“They take a lot of risks with their possession but they’re very good at it, and it’s difficult to play against.

“But from our side we feel we’re in a good place at the moment, and we’re looking forward to the game.

“We need to try disrupt the flow of their possession, and make good use of the ball ourselves when we have the chances to do that.

“It’ll be important that we defend well and we have a good structure to us, but also we need to try and attack and score goals as well.

“You’d much rather be in a good position after four or five games than not, but nothing’s decided after that time and you’ve only played a few teams.

“So it’s hard to get an accurate gauge of where you’re going to be, but we keep talking about progress and improvement here and that’s what we want to see.

“We want to see that our performances are improving and building all the time, and if we do that we’ll be pleased.”

Jolley also confirmed that Ahkeem Rose will miss the game, but should return to training next week, while Ludvig Öhman will be given more time to see if he’s available to play.

He said: “Ahkeem Rose is likely to miss the game on Saturday, but the injury isn’t too serious.

“So we’re hopeful that next week he should have a good chance of returning to training, so that’s good news.

“Ludvig got a bang on the head – it’s not a full concussion, but we need to give him a bit more time to see if he’s going to be okay for the weekend.

“If he ticks all the boxes that we want him to tick, then he’ll be available to play.

“He feels fine within himself so if it’s appropriate that he plays then we’ll select him for the team.”
