On this Day in 2014, Town picked up their first win of the season in style with a six-goal rout of Gateshead at the International Stadium.
The Mariners were gifted the perfect start when defender Craig Baxter’s spectacular own goal put them ahead with just six minutes on the clock.
The returning Scott Neilson doubled Town's lead, before Lenell John-Lewis’ first goal of the season came three minutes before the interval to make it 3-0.
Neilson made it four within a minute of the restart, before Marcus Maddison pulled one back for the home side.
Gateshead looked for a second goal but substitute Craig Disley made it 5-1 in the closing stages and John-Lewis' second of the game came in added time to complete the scoring and go a long way towards erasing the memories of previous season’s painful play-off defeat in the north-east.
