Grimsby Town welcome Port Vale to Blundell Park in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (3pm).

Michael Jolley’s side came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Colchester United on Tuesday, thanks to a second-half James Hanson penalty and Matt Green’s 87th-minute wonder-goal.

And the Mariners will be looking to carry the momentum from that second-half performance into this weekend’s clash with Port Vale.

John Askey’s men picked up an impressive 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers at Vale Park midweek, thanks to goals from Richie Bennett and David Amoo.

And they will be hoping to continue their unbeaten start in the league by beating Town on Saturday.

Transfer business

There was plenty of transfer activity at Vale Park this summer, with 11 players joining Askey’s side, and 12 leaving Vale Park ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Pacey winger David Amoo joined from Cambridge United, with former Town forward Rhys Browne signing from Yeovil Town, and striker Mark Cullen joining from League One side Blackpool.

Centre-forward Ricky Miller left the Valiants by mutual consent, while midfielder Luke Hannant joined Cambridge United, and Theo Vassell signed for Macclesfield Town.

One to watch

Striker Richie Bennett has made an impressive start to life at Vale Park, scoring two goals in three league appearances for the Valiants in 2019-20.

The 28-year-old joined on a two-year deal from fellow League Two side Carlisle United this summer, having scored 10 goals in 59 league appearances at Brunton Park.

And Bennett will now be hoping to kick on for Port Vale, and score in a third consecutive league game against Town this weekend.

Previous starting 11

Askey went with a 4-3-3 formation as they beat Forest Green Rovers last time out.

Goalkeeper Scott Brown started, with a back four of James Gibbons, Leon Legge, Nathan Smith, and Adam Crookes.

David Worrall, Luke Joyce, and Tom Conlon made up the midfield three, with David Amoo, Richie Bennett and Cristian Montaño up front.

Last time we met

Town recorded their fifth win in six games in all competitions when they beat Port Vale 1-0 at Vale Park on Boxing Day in the 2018-19 season.

Wes Thomas won the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month for December for his 62nd-minute strike against the Valiants.
