Our women’s team continued their pre-season preparations with a 5-0 victory against Peterborough United reserves on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Chelsea Brittle and striker Beth Wharton were unavailable, but this presented opportunities for others to impress. Goalkeeper Phoebe Price played the full 90 minutes, and returning forwards Abbie Glover and Ellie Wilson were able to feature for the first time.
Glover and Wilson both found the net on their debuts, and Saskia Rawbone continued her fine form after getting on the scoresheet. Katie Howlett (pictured) registered a brace, the first of which was an impressive strike.
Manager Dale Houlston remained grounded after seeing his side record another comprehensive victory. He said: “Of course it’s very pleasing to get another victory under our belt. The players are naturally delighted and there’s a smashing spirit developing throughout the group. But we won’t be getting carried away too much. It’s pre-season and it’s about getting much-needed game time and developing a bit of understanding about how we want to play. It’s flagging up plenty for us to work on too”.
Dale added: “We have a lot of very young players in our team, a number of which are playing their first full season in women’s adult football. So far they’ve done really well and I’m very optimistic about their futures. It’s great to have some more experienced players around them too, and the blend looks good”.
