Team News

Moses Ogbu returned to training this week after missing last Saturday’s nil-nil draw at Carlisle United through illness – and is expecting to be included in Anthony Limbrick’s matchday squad.

Jordan Cook (groin) has also trained and could feature on derby day providing there is no reaction.

However, top-scorer James Hanson (calf) has been ruled out for Saturday and probably Town’s festive fixture campaign.

Form Guide

United are unbeaten in the last six Sky Bet League Two games - they have won three and drawn three of those fixtures.

Head to Head

Last Time:

Grimsby Town 1-2 Scunthorpe Utd

Grimsby Town lost their opening Trophy group match as Scunthorpe United collected all three points at Blundell Park

A double from striker Kevin Van Veen came either side of Harry Cardwell's equaliser as the visitors, who ended the game with 10 men after James Perch was sent off in added time, claimed a narrow win.

Man in the Middle:

Referee Tom Nield will take charge of Saturday’s Lincolnshire derby clash with Scunthorpe United.

In 16 games this season, he has brandished the Yellow Card 44 times and shown 2 Red Cards.

Key Men for The Iron – Kevin van Veen leads the way for the Iron with six goals and one assist to his name.  The big frontman scored two against the Mariners in the Trophy earlier in the season.

What the managers are saying.

Anthony Limbrick

“We’re excited. We’ve been preparing during the week, and we can’t wait to get going.

“This game has been talked about for a long time so we’re definitely excited and ready to go for it.

“We know about the bragging rights for the fans. It’s a home game for us and we want to be at it and win any home game.

“But especially in this game I don’t think we need to tell these players what it’s about – they totally understand, and they’ll be ready to go."

Paul Hurst

Speaking on, Hurst said: “I’m looking forward to the atmosphere because I’ve been there for this game in the other dugout (in the FA Cup first round as Grimsby manager), and it’s one of the atmospheres that I certainly remember as a manager and probably overall in my time in football,” Hurst told the club website.

“While there may not be 60,000 there, ultimately the noise created and the buzz around the stadium, outside of it as well, is something that stayed with me."
