🍾 Michael Jolley Wins Sky Bet League Two December Manager Of The Month

Grimsby Town boss Michael Jolley is chosen as Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month for December

11 January 2019

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley has won the Sky Bet League Two manager of the month award for December, we can confirm.

The Mariners won four of their five league games last month, picking up consecutive victories over Swindon Town, Notts County, Port Vale, and Exeter City.

Town’s fine form saw Jolley’s side climb from 18th to 13th in the league, scoring 10 goals in the process.

But, despite being chosen for the individual award, Jolley praised the Mariners players for their hard-working performances in December.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “Really pleased. It’s recognition for the whole football club and the progress that we’ve made, certainly in recent months – culminating in a really strong December.

“I think Manager of the Month is always a bit of a misnomer because it’s really team of the month – it’s based on the results of the team over that period.

“It’s credit to our players that they came through that period, and delivered some really good performances.

“And we were consistent throughout, despite picking up some injuries to important players, and those who stepped into the team really showed that they were ready to help the team get some good results.

“It’s testament to the way the lads work because even those who aren’t in the team are really working hard, training hard, and ready to step in.”

And the Town boss also congratulated his fellow candidates, Mark Cooper, David Flitcroft, and Danny Cowley, for their nominations for the award.

“And we were up against some really strong candidates – I think the other three nominees are all clubs in the top six who have been consistent throughout the season.

“So congratulations to them for being nominated, and for being in the top six.

“And I must also mention John Sheridan, who had a good a month as anyone in our league, and probably had he not moved on, I think he may have won this award anyway.

“So we’re really respectful of everyone in our league – it’s a tough league, but really pleased to win, and it’s a reward for everybody at the football club.”
