Grimsby Town striker Wes Thomas has won the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month award for December, we can confirm.
Thomas, who scored four goals in a run of three league games last month, won the award for his strike in the 1-0 away win over Port Vale at Vale Park on Boxing Day – receiving 45 per cent of the public vote.
The sign of a striker in form is that he knows what he is going to do before anyone else on the pitch. To be precise, a jink inside and an arrowhead of a shot into the far top corner.
And the 31-year-old was quick to thank the Mariners fans for voting for his goal in the poll.
He said: “It is nice. I’ve never won this one so it is nice to hear. I am really grateful that the fans have voted for me and it is a real honour to receive the award. It’s obviously right up there in terms of the best goals of my career.”
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “This was a Boxing Day gift for the Grimsby Town faithful, with an outstanding strike securing all three points for the Mariners.
“Thomas was always looking to get back onto his stronger right foot, but he still had a huge amount to do when hitting the dipping drive inside the far post.”
Thomas beat off competition from Forest Green Rovers’ George Williams and Yeovil Town’s Yoann Arquin.
The winners of the Sky Bet EFL Goals of the Month were chosen after a fan poll on skysports.com.
The shortlist for the poll was decided by a judging panel following suggestions from supporters via Twitter.
The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, Sky Bet Sponsorship Manager Michael Holinski, and EFL Senior Media Manager Rob Meaden.
