Speaking on iFollow Mariners, Jolley said: “We put this game in almost as an extra game to make sure if we needed to get more minutes into any players, we could do.
“Our original plan was to have a younger team than we started with.
“Obviously, we started with more of the established players, so it’s been pleasing to get more time into them and top them up ready for the game on Saturday, and then obviously the game the following Saturday.
"We wanted to come here and enjoy the game, it was a good exercise, we got out of the game what we wanted to," he added.
Newcastle United loanee defender Liam Gibson came off early in the first half through injury.
The gaffer gave us an update on his injury. He said: “He just felt something so hopefully it’s nothing too serious.
Again, in a game like this there’s no point in trying to push through it, it’s just unfortunate that he didn’t feel it until very early on in the game.”
