🏆 Grimsby Town Ability Counts FC Win Championship League Title 2018-19

Grimsby Town Ability Counts FC win Championship league title, with two other sides finishing second in their respective divisions

4 June 2019

Grimsby Town Ability Counts FC won the Lincolnshire Ability Counts League Championship division 2018-19.

GTACFC’s season in the Lincolnshire Ability Counts League came to an end this weekend, with the Mariners winning the Championship after an unbeaten final tournament.

Town went into the tournament two points behind top-of-the-table Lincoln.

But the Mariners beat Lincoln, the Imps drew with Boston, and Town secured the top sport for the 2018-19 season after an unbeaten final tournament.

This was a huge achievement for the squad, who were overwhelmed with joy and were belting out choruses of “champions!”

Going into the tournament both Grimsby Town Premiership teams were still in contention for the title.

In the Premiership it came down to the last game of the season – first-place Town v second-place Boston – with the winner taking all.

After a very hard-fought game and Town having a penalty saved they lost the match and finished second in the league.

In the League division Town also came runners up in second-place. It was a very hard season for them with top spot in touching distance at one point, but this ultimately proved too big a challenge.

This season has been amazing. And with our teams finishing second, first and second in their respective leagues we can clearly say it’s been successful, but there is still some work to do.

We would like to say a massive thank you to all the players for their hard work all season – enjoy the celebrations, and some chill time!

We would also like to say an even bigger thank you to all of our sponsors, our partners Grimsby Town Sports and Education Trust, and to all our volunteers. Without all of this support, we would not be able to do what we are doing.
