David Artell’s Crewe Alexandra could be one to watch for promotion in Sky Bet League Two 2019-20.

Missed out on 2018-19 play-offs

The Railwaymen finished 12th-place last season, on 65 points – narrowly missing out on the play-offs by six points.

Artell’s side had an okay season, with a number of ups-and-downs along the way last term, but came close to clawing their way into the play-offs after six wins from eight games towards the end of the season.

And Crewe, who Town manager Michael Jolley believes will be “one of the better teams” this year, will be hoping for a promotion push this season.

Former Gibraltar defender Artell became Crewe boss in January, 2017, replacing Steve Davis as manager.

It was Artell’s first managerial job, after previously being academy operations manager at Gresty Road.

The Alex, who are preparing for their fourth campaign in League Two, have continually progressed season-on-season under Artell – finishing 17th, 15th, and 12th.

And the Railwaymen will be hoping to keep that going this year as they look to get promoted back to Sky Bet League One.

Players

Five players left Gresty Road this summer, including club captain George Ray and goalkeeper Ben Garratt.

The pair have made almost 400 appearances between them since coming through the club’s youth academy in 2011 and 2010 respectively.

Michael Raynes, Alex Nicholls, and Joe Lynch were also among those to leave the club this summer.

But Oli Finney, Nicky Hunt, Billy Sass-Davies, Luke Offord, and Josh Lundstram have all signed new deals with Crewe ahead of 2019-20.

Grimsby Town season tickets are still available here.
