Oldham Athletic will be hoping to kick on under new manager Laurent Banide in Sky Bet League Two 2019-20.

The Latics finished mid-table last season, on 62 points – nine outside the play-off spots.

They had a steady season in their first campaign back in League Two – following their relegation from League One in 2017-18 – enduring a number of winning and losing runs throughout the term.

They picked up some good form under former manager Pete Wild towards the end of the season, as they went on a six-game unbeaten run, but finished the campaign with three straight defeats.

Laurent Banide

The former Monaco boss took charge as Oldham head coach, following Pete Wild’s departure, in June.

Banide’s most recent job was as boss of Qatari side Umm Salal SC in 2018, and he’s also managed in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

And the 51-year-old will now be hoping to help Oldham kick on as he takes charge of his first game as Latics boss in the League Two 2019-20 season.

Players

The Latics have a number of first-team players under contract ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, including Chris O’Grady, George Edmundson, and Rob Hunt, while Gevaro Nepomuceno has extended his stay at Boundary Park.

The Latics also released seven players, including attacking midfielder Jose Baxter who scored as Oldham beat Town 3-0 at Blundell Park last season.

Peter Clarke, Dan Gardner, Jay Sheridan, Andy Taylor, Chinedu Uche, and Urko Vera were also released by the Latics.

Defender Alex Iacovitti, who was on loan from Nottingham Forest last season, joined Oldham on a permanent deal this summer.
