Dino Maamria’s Stevenage will be aiming to make the Sky Bet League Two play-offs in the 2019-20 season.

A point outside top seven in 2018-19

The Boro finished 10th-place last term, on 70 points – a point away from Newport County in seventh-place.

Maamria’s men had a steady season, beating Town in both fixtures, and looked to be heading for a mid-table finish.

But – after just one defeat in their last 10 league games, and five wins from their final six matches – they almost snuck into the play-off places.

And they will be hoping they can continue that good form at the start of the League Two 2019-20 campaign, and push for promotion.

The former Stevenage and Doncaster Rovers defender took charge as Boro boss in March 2018, following the sacking of Darren Sarll.

He had an indifferent start as Boro manager, winning three and drawing two of his nine games in charge at the end of the 2017-18 campaign as they finished 16th-place on 55 points.

But they kicked on massively last term, making ground on an extra 15 points and narrowly missing out on the play-off places.

And the 48-year-old will be looking to guide the Boro back to Sky Bet League One for the first time since 2014 next season.

Players

The Boro signed highly-rated young defender Jamie Fielding from non-League side Hastings United.

And they have a number of valuable players already under contract ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, including Kurtis Guthrie, Danny Newton, and Paul Farman.

But they released a number of experienced first-team players, including Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Michael Timlin, Luke Wilkinson, Joe Martin, and Johnny Hunt, while Joel Byrom and Ronnie Henry left the Boro.

Maamria’s side also released Mark McKee, Will Appleyard, and Oliver Byrne after their contracts expired at Broadhall Way.

Fixtures v the Boro

Town face Stevenage at Broadhall Way on Saturday, October 12, and host Maamria's side at Blundell Park on Tuesday, January 28.
