📝Match Report: Tranmere Rovers 4-1 Grimsby Town

12 March 2019

Town boss Michael Jolley spoke after watching his side beaten 4-1 at Tranmere tonight, and he said that the result was hard to take.

Speaking straight after the game, Jolley said: “It is hard to accept the result because I think there was a lot more to like about our performance today than there was on Saturday. The scoreline doesn’t reflect that.

“I thought we started the better of the two teams, we had two clear chances to score before the first goal.

“In the second half, when we were in a difficult situation, I saw a really positive reaction from the boys, they kept going, kept a clean sheet in the second half and tried to score to get back in the game, right up until the last moments.

Clearly, there was a period just before half time when we didn’t deal with the ball coming into our box. It’s a wild night, the wind’s whirling, the pitch is not easy, but they are not excuses, we need to do better with our defending.

“I think we need to stay calm. Their goalkeeper's won man of the match, we had a number of good chances – had we converted more of the chances we might have been able to get back into the game."
