Everybody at Grimsby Town Football Club are saddened to hear of the passing of former player, John Steeples.
Winger, Steeples (middle row, first player on left), played for Town between 1980 and 1982, but was unfortunate to compete with the likes of Tony Ford, Mike Brolly and Bobby Cumming for a place in the Town team.
But when he did get the opportunity to play, he had the happy knack of setting up Trevor Whymark for vital goals, providing the assist for an equaliser against Notts County (Town went on to win 2-1) and playing a big hand in a winner against Swansea City.
He made nine appearances for the club including the Group Cup Final victory against Wimbledon in 1982.
Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this difficult time.
