🏆 Grimsby Town U18s v Walsall - Youth Team Match Preview

Grimsby Town youth team host Walsall in their final Youth Alliance Cup group match on Saturday

6 November 2019

Grimsby Town youth team play their final Youth Alliance Cup group match as they host Walsall at Cheapside on Saturday (12pm).

The young Mariners progressed to the second round of the FA Youth Cup as they beat Rugby Town 1-0 at Blundell Park, thanks to Luis Adlard’s extra-time goal, last weekend.

Neil Woods’s side put in an impressive performance as they continued to battle and search for a breakthrough until they eventually found the net through Adlard in extra time.

And they will be looking to continue that momentum, and take a big step towards qualification to the Youth Alliance Cup knockout stages, as they face the Saddlers on Saturday.

The Mariners are currently second in the group – behind Walsall on goal difference – after picking up six points from their first three games in the competition.

And they will be hoping to leapfrog the Saddlers and take their tally up to nine points with a win at Cheapside at the weekend.

But Walsall will pose a tough test to Town as they look to continue their perfect start to the group.

The Saddlers have scored six and conceded just one in their opening two games, and will be hoping to go three points clear of Town with a win on Saturday.

Walsall are fifth (out of 13 teams) in the EFL North West Youth Alliance, as they sit on 13 points after their first seven league games.

After Saturday’s game against Walsall, the young Mariners travel to Crewe Alexandra in the second round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday, November 13 (7pm).
