Grimsby Town youth team play their final Youth Alliance Cup group match as they host Walsall at Cheapside on Saturday (12pm).
The young Mariners’ previous two games, against Walsall and Rotherham, have been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Cheapside.
But they will be hoping to kick on from the impressive performance in their last match as they suffered a narrow 2-0 extra-time defeat to Crewe Alexandra in the second round of the FA Youth Cup at Gresty Road.
The Mariners are currently second in the Youth Alliance Cup group – behind Walsall on goal difference – after picking up six points from their first three games in the competition.
And they will be hoping to leapfrog the Saddlers and take their tally up to nine points with a win in this rescheduled fixture at Cheapside at the weekend.
But Walsall will pose a tough test to Town as they look to continue their perfect start to the group.
The Saddlers have scored six and conceded just one in their opening two games, and will be hoping to go three points clear of Town with a win on Saturday.
Walsall are sixth (out of 13 teams) in the EFL North West Youth Alliance, as they sit on 16 points after their first eight league games.
