Neil Woods’s Grimsby Town youth team travel to Huddersfield Town in the EFL North East Youth Alliance on Saturday (11.30am).
The young Mariners are winless in their last four games in all competitions, and lost 4-1 to Notts County at Cheapside last weekend.
Woods’s side had positive spells of possession in the defeat to the Magpies, and they came close with efforts from Lennon Stead and goalscorer Brandon McPherson.
And Town will be looking to bounce back from that disappointing result, and earn their third league win of the season this weekend.
A win could potentially lift the young Mariners – who are currently second-bottom – as high as sixth-place in the league.
But it will be a difficult test for the young Mariners as they travel to the Terriers, who are a place above Town as they sit ninth in the league table – level on points with Town on seven.
Huddersfield have won two of their previous five matches in all competitions, but have suffered two league defeats on the bounce in their last two games – 4-0 and 5-0 away at Doncaster Rovers and Lincoln City, respectively.
After this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town, the young Mariners travel to Salford City in the Youth Alliance Cup on Tuesday, October 22.
