Neil Woods’s Grimsby Town youth team fell to a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln City in the EFL North East Youth Alliance at Cheapside.
The young Mariners controlled possession for large parts but it was the Imps who opened the scoring with a defensive error which was pounced on quickly.
Lincoln had some small spells of possession from then on, but all the chances were going Town’s way.
Brandon McPherson went close after lifting over the goalkeeper, and Luis Adlard blasted an effort wide, as well as a host of other chances.
The second half was played in Lincoln’s half – Town had all the possession and chances but it wasn’t their day as they couldn’t find the net.
Lennon Stead’s header bounced over the bar, as well as one that went past the post, Hope’s free-kick was saved well, and Town had plenty of other chances.
Town dominated the game, but couldn’t manage to get anything from it as they lost 1-0.
The young Mariners travel to Mansfield Town in the EFL North East Youth Alliance on Saturday (11am).
